I've been writing a lot more songs of lately and I hope to start doing some recording before much longer. Been listening to a lot of William Fitzsimmons, John Denver, Ray Lamontagne, Iron & Wine. Maybe they are the source for my inspiration. Derek Webb once said that the "full time job of an artist is hiding their influences."
That is really tough to do.
I know I have my own voice and part of the songwriting and crafting process is discovering how that takes shape without coming across as just another imitator.

Hi Randall. I like that you are starting to think of your music and other creative work as your full time job. Like we were talking about last week, one of the coolest aspects of the times we live in is the fact that there are so many ways for us to try to make a living. It reminds me of the Celestine Prophecy, by James Redfield, where one of the characters talks about how the day will come in which we pay each other for our creativity.
I just started a new blog called Virtual Vocations
(http://virtualvocations.blogspot.com/), which is all about this sort of thing. I'd like you to take a look at it and maybe share something about the journey you are on currently.
See you Tuesday!
