I finally watched Into the Wild on DVD today and it definitely made it into my top ten movies. I thought that the film was true to the spirit of the book (which I had read some time back) and Sean Penn did an excellent job as writer/producer/director!
I had some expectations for this movie, so much that I had almost declared it my favorite movie of all time without having even seen it! I guess it just didn't pack the punch or inspire me the way I had hoped... don't get me wrong, it is still amongst my top movies of all time. In the end the best part of the movie was the how it constanly drew from the book and the adventurous spirit that couldn't be tamed in Chris McCandless. The movie could be best summed up in a quote from McCandless:
The core of mans' spirit comes from new experiences.
